Grid Reporter

Grid Reporter is a smartphone application that allows consumers to submit reports regarding power outages, damaged equipment or downed electrical lines. On the server-side Grid Reporter utilises an electrical network connectivity model with integrated geographical location data to do geographical lookup and topology analysis to calculate where the user is connected to the grid when they report an outage or what pieces of network equipment they are looking at when they report damage. This allows intelligent clustering and grouping of faults with the ability to then use this data with existing outage management systems or workforce mobile applications. CIM for Environmental Data

The EPRI report on modelling environmental data has been published by EPRI.  The project was originally entitled CIM for Weather and was initiated to investigate utility requirements for exchanging and storing environmental data. The project sought toexplore whether the data could be modelled in a standard form compatible with existing utility information models, particularly IEC 61970-301/61968-11/62325-301 (CIM). The project looked at several use cases from the primary sponsor, Southern California Edison, as well as taking input from other utilities, vendors, and consultants from around the world. EPRI CIM Primer

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has published the first edition of the CIM Primer as part of the Intelligrid project. The Common Information Model (CIM) Primer explains the basics of the CIM (IEC 61970, IEC 61968, and IEC 62325). Starting with a historical perspective, it describes how the CIM originated and grew through the years. The functions of various working groups of Technical Committee 57 of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) are described. The process of how an IEC standard is created is also outlined. The basics of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) are detailed to introduce the reader to the language of the CIM. Then, building on commonly understood objects (basic shapes), the concepts that underline the CIM are carefully built step by step. The reader is then transported into the world of power systems where the concepts that were developed previously are applied to the complexities of the electric grid.
